Singing To Sing? Or Singing To Praise?...

There is a song we have been singing at Merge the past few weeks that seems to be taking root in the lives of some of the Merger's. It is by Hillsong and the title is "Healer". The words are both a powerful declaration and a challenging question. So many times in a worship gathering I feel I am guilty of singing words on a screen rather than joining my heart, my mind and my soul into declaring intimate truths about my God. This is always a dangerous game to play because God doesn't need our praise that is self seeking and manipulative. He doesn't need kiss up's whose motives are exposed the first moment they think they are alone and their actions don't line up.

Here are the lyrics of the song I was talking about. The bridge is the most challenging part for me. If I truly believe that nothing is impossible for Him then why do I find myself attempting to create my own momentum or trying to have more control? How can I learn better to trust that He will not let me fall and is the only One who can rescue me from so many troubles?

"Healer"
Verse:

You hold my every moment
You calm my raging seas
You walk with me through fire
And heal all my disease

Pre-Chorus:
I trust in You
I trust in You

Chorus:
I believe You're my Healer
I believe You are all I need
I believe You're my Portion
I believe You're more than enough for me
Jesus You're all I need

Bridge:
Nothing is impossible for You
Nothing is impossible for You
Nothing is impossible for You
You hold my world in Your hands

Heart and Soul,
BAG
